When Holly turned 25 her life turned upside down, stage two breast cancer which was followed by serious treatment and a double mastectomy. Back for a second time with Women of Wonder, Sonia Sunger, who has been a news anchor and journalist in BC for the last 15 years, shares her views on media and the crisis of misinformation. If we can’t trust the media, where do we turn? There is a significant push for education around the importance of media in society and something Sonia has dedicated her career to. 
 
We also explore women needing to take back their agency around their health. With the healthcare industry focusing on the male body in studies, we are only started to get the attention required to save lives and improve quality of life. What can women do to take initiative and ensure they don’t fall into the cracks of the systems? We have plenty of room to improve so starting the conversation happens here.

Nisha and Karly had planned to spend a few minutes interviewing Nisha’s 8-year-old daughter about her experiences with friendship and community. Instead, Nola took her seat at the table and dove into her questions for US. Unplanned, unscripted, she went straight into her heart to find ways to explore how WoW was started, the importance of friendship and partnership with women, and lots more.

We are excited to share the first season finale episode with the one and only Sonia Sunger, co-anchor of Global News Morning! Sonia has been an advocate for women over her career and sharing their stories across her 16 years of broadcast journalism.  
 
Nisha & Karly had the pleasure to speak with Sonia who shares wisdom from her journey in becoming a mother, throwing her perfectionist tendencies out, and pain as an opportunity for growth and learning. Tune in to hear more! 
 
Sonia’s career in journalism formally began in 2006 at CTV Edmonton where she filled just about every role in the newsroom – from writer and web journalist to producer and anchor – before making her move back to B.C. in 2013.
 
Sonia was born and raised in Victoria, B.C., and is a West Coast girl at heart. Sonia is a proud second-generation Canadian and speaks Punjabi. In her spare time, you’ll find Sonia spending time with her family and two kids, getting fresh air on the seawall, or trying out a new recipe.  Sonia is passionate about healthy eating, meditation, and building an active lifestyle with her family.
